Emily Bustamante Opens Up About Her Daughter Journey’s Autism Diagnosis on World Autism Awareness Day
In a heartfelt tribute to World Autism Awareness Day, Emily Bustamante-widely known as Emily B-has courageously shared that her youngest daughter, Journey, is on the autism spectrum. Journey, born to Emily and rapper Fabolous, has recently been diagnosed with autism, a revelation Emily chose to disclose publicly for the first time.

Emily, a renowned stylist and fashion designer, shared touching family photos from a recent photoshoot alongside her candid message. She is a mother to four children: Jonas, Johan, and Journey with Fabolous, and Taina Williams from a previous relationship. Journey, who was born in October 2020, has been a source of profound growth and transformation for Emily and her family.
Journey’s Unique Challenges and Strengths
In her Instagram post dated April 2, Emily B opened up about the complexities of raising a child with autism. She explained that Journey is nonverbal and faces sensory processing difficulties, which means she experiences the world in a distinct and deeply personal way. Additionally, Journey was born with PHACE syndrome, a rare congenital disorder that adds another layer to her medical and developmental journey.
Emily expressed how these challenges have reshaped her perspective and strengthened her resilience. “There have been moments filled with fear and uncertainty, times when I had to summon strength I never knew I had,” she wrote. “But above all, there has been an overwhelming amount of love 💙.”
The Importance of Visibility and Advocacy
Emily emphasized that her decision to share Journey’s diagnosis publicly was motivated by the significance of awareness and representation. “For a long time, I kept this part of my life private-not out of shame or silence, but because some journeys are sacred,” she reflected. “Now, I feel ready to embrace this chapter openly because visibility matters, and so does she.”
To further support autism awareness and provide insight into her family’s experience, Emily launched an Instagram page for her new initiative, A Special Journey. This platform aims to educate, inspire, and connect with others navigating similar paths.
Contextualizing Autism Awareness Today
World Autism Awareness Day, observed annually on April 2, highlights the importance of understanding and acceptance for individuals on the autism spectrum. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1 in 36 children in the United States is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), underscoring the growing need for awareness and support.
Emily B’s openness contributes to a broader cultural shift toward embracing neurodiversity and fostering inclusive communities. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that every child’s journey is unique and deserving of love, respect, and recognition.
