The acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy series “Shrinking” is gearing up for a bold new chapter in its fourth season, as revealed by creator Bill Lawrence. Rather than continuing the existing storyline, the upcoming season will introduce an entirely new plotline while keeping the beloved cast intact.
Lawrence shared this exciting update on social media, stating, “Season finale and end of this three season story next week. Hope you dig it. (Excited to start completely new story next year. Feels scary/risky/fun).” This marks a significant shift from the show’s previous trajectory, which centered on the emotional journey of therapist Jimmy, portrayed by Jason Segel, and his circle of friends and colleagues.
The ensemble cast features notable talents including Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Lukita Maxwell, Christa Miller, Michael Urie, and Ted McGinley. Season 3 also welcomed guest appearances from co-creator Brett Goldstein, alongside returning stars Damon Wayans Jr., Wendie Malick, and Cobie Smulders. New additions such as Michael J. Fox, Jeff Daniels, Candice Bergen, Sherry Cola, and Isabella Gomez further enriched the season.

Apple TV+ confirmed the renewal of “Shrinking” for a fourth season back in January, even before the third season premiered. The finale of Season 3 is scheduled to be available for streaming on April 8, 2026.
Bill Lawrence elaborated on the show’s original vision, explaining, “We always pitched a three season story on #Shrinking grief-forgiveness-moving forward. We wanted to stay true to that and end the way we planned. (So excited to do Season 4 and a new story with the same cast.)”
Further clarifying the upcoming season’s direction, Lawrence emphasized, “There is a Season 4 with the EXACT same cast (that’s why we are doing it, we love each other) and we are ending the 3 Season story we pitched so have to tell a new one S4.”
Industry insiders note that this approach is reminiscent of other successful series that have reinvented themselves mid-run, such as “Fargo,” which retained its core cast while exploring fresh narratives each season. This strategy often revitalizes audience interest and allows creative teams to explore new themes without losing the show’s essence.
