Speech-Language Pathologist Ivanna Ortiz’s License Revoked Following Alleged Shooting at Rihanna’s Residence

Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, a licensed speech-language pathologist, has had her professional credentials revoked in California after being accused of discharging approximately twenty rounds from an AR-15 style rifle at the home of international music icon Rihanna in Beverly Hills on March 8.

Background and Legal Charges

The 35-year-old Orlando, Florida resident, who obtained her license in April 2016, now faces serious criminal allegations including one count of attempted murder, ten counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and three counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling. If found guilty on all counts, Ortiz could be sentenced to life imprisonment.

According to court filings, the California Speech-Language Pathology Board urged the state attorney general to revoke Ortiz’s license following the incident. Prior to this, Ortiz had maintained her certification for over a decade, with her license valid until June 2027.

Details of the Incident and Legal Proceedings

During her arraignment, Ortiz entered a plea of not guilty. She reportedly told law enforcement that she did not intend to commit murder, although prosecutors contend the shooting was intentional, premeditated, and deliberate.

In the days leading up to the shooting, Ortiz posted hostile messages on social media aimed at Rihanna, including unfounded accusations about the singer’s health and demands for direct communication.

Ortiz’s public defender, Derek Ray Dillman, petitioned for a reduction of her bail from $1.875 million to $70,000, citing financial hardship. However, the judge denied this request, emphasizing the severity of the threat Ortiz poses to public safety. Deputy District Attorney Alex Bott highlighted that the shooting could have resulted in multiple fatalities.

Rihanna’s Account and Impact on Family

Rihanna reported to police that she and her partner, A$AP Rocky, were inside an Airstream trailer on their property when they heard about ten loud noises resembling metal being struck. She immediately alerted Rocky, and both took cover on the ground.

The couple then hurried to their main residence to ensure the safety of their three children, Rihanna’s mother, and two staff members, all of whom were present during the attack. Although three bullets hit the Airstream’s windshield and side, the vehicle’s structure prevented penetration, averting potential injury.

Ortiz’s Criminal History and Upcoming Trial

Ortiz has a prior arrest record in Florida, including charges related to domestic violence, reckless driving, and violations of pretrial release conditions. Her trial date remains pending, with prosecutors pursuing the harshest penalties permitted under California law.

This case underscores the critical importance of public safety and the severe consequences of violent actions, especially when involving firearms in residential areas.
