John Helms, representing Lontrell Williams Jr. (known professionally as Pooh Shiesty), contends that the government’s portrayal of the January 10 incident at a Dallas recording studio neglects the intricate contractual and business tensions between his client and Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records label. Helms emphasized that the motivations behind the events are often misinterpreted in the public eye.

“The government tries to characterize this as a dispute over money between Lontrell and his record label, but in this business, things are very often not what they seem, and people’s motivations are very often not what they seem,” Helms explained to reporters, as reported by the Dallas Morning News.

According to court documents, Pooh Shiesty is accused of orchestrating an armed robbery at the Dallas studio, where he allegedly forced Gucci Mane at gunpoint to sign documents terminating his contract with 1017 Records. Prosecutors claim that Shiesty led a group of eight men, including his father, Lontrell Williams Sr., in the confrontation.

The group reportedly seized Gucci Mane’s wedding ring, watch, earrings, and cash during the incident. Among those charged alongside Pooh Shiesty is rapper Big30 (Rodney Wright Jr.), who is accused of blocking the studio’s exit to prevent victims from fleeing.

All nine defendants face serious kidnapping and conspiracy charges, which carry the possibility of life imprisonment if convicted.
