Jonathan Majors’ Career Revival Marred by On-Set Accident and Labor Disputes

Jonathan Majors’ attempt to reignite his acting career has encountered significant setbacks following a dangerous fall during filming, which has intensified ongoing labor disputes involving the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). This incident occurred as Majors embarked on his first feature film since his 2023 assault conviction, collaborating with conservative media company The Daily Wire. The production has since been plagued by crew walkouts and serious safety concerns.

“Run Hide Fight Infidels”: A Troubled Sequel

The film, a sequel to the 2020 thriller Run Hide Fight, titled Run Hide Fight Infidels, was intended to mark a fresh chapter for Majors. However, the production has instead become synonymous with labor unrest and safety violations that threaten to halt filming altogether.

Critical Safety Breach During Stunt Causes Injury

According to Deadline, the turmoil escalated when Majors and co-star JC Kilcoyne fell through a window during a stunt on the South Carolina set. The window had been replaced with a loosely fitted sheet of tempered glass, intended to be shattered in a later scene. This oversight led to the glass giving way unexpectedly, causing both actors to fall approximately six feet. Kilcoyne sustained multiple hand lacerations requiring stitches, while Majors’ injury details remain undisclosed.

The crew’s reaction to the incident was one of concern, particularly due to the production’s apparent silence and lack of transparency when resetting the scene, which many interpreted as an attempt to minimize the severity of the accident.

Labor Strike Erupts Amidst Safety Concerns

This accident was the tipping point for a crew already alarmed by unsafe working conditions during five weeks of filming. On March 26, IATSE officially initiated a strike against the Daily Wire production. Initially focused on securing health and pension benefits, the union’s demands quickly expanded to address hazardous workplace practices that jeopardized crew safety.

Beyond the window incident, crew members reported numerous alarming events, including rigged tree branches striking the set medic and a complete absence of safety briefings for complex stunts and the use of airsoft firearms. These conditions drew parallels to past industry tragedies, such as the fatal prop gun incident involving Alec Baldwin.

Unprecedented Production Mismanagement

Veteran crew members described the set environment as chaotic and unorthodox, lacking fundamental production roles like a unit production manager or an official crew roster. Workers resorted to creating informal lists to identify colleagues and department leads, highlighting the disorganized nature of the shoot.

Additionally, the production reportedly insisted on filming at a location contaminated with black mold and suspected asbestos, disregarding contractor warnings about the long-term health risks. This blatant neglect further galvanized the strike, with over 60% of the crew signing union cards demanding formal collective bargaining rights.

Controversial Personnel and Producer Response

Adding to the crew’s unease was the involvement of special effects supervisor Chris Bailey, who has a prior conviction for illegal explosives possession on a film set. Despite restrictions preventing him from handling explosives, Bailey was assigned pyrotechnics duties, raising serious safety alarms.

When approached by Deadline about the strike and safety issues, producers including Dallas Sonnier of Bonfire Legend responded defiantly, stating they “don’t negotiate with communists,” underscoring the adversarial atmosphere surrounding the production.

What Lies Ahead for Jonathan Majors?

For Majors, this film was meant to showcase his return to intense, commanding roles and rehabilitate his public image. His alliance with The Daily Wire surprised many fans and observers, and the current turmoil has only intensified skepticism. With IATSE actively discouraging industry professionals from joining the project due to safety concerns, the actor’s comeback faces significant hurdles.

As filming reportedly continues with replacement crew members in South Carolina, the sustainability of Majors’ venture into independent, politically conservative filmmaking remains uncertain. Whether this path will ultimately restore his standing in Hollywood or further complicate his career is yet to be seen.
