Roc Nation CEO Faces Insurance Denial Amid Family Legal Dispute
Desiree Perez, the CEO of Roc Nation, is currently embroiled in a deeply personal legal conflict with her daughter, Demoree Hadley. Adding to the turmoil, Perez’s insurance provider has refused to cover the mounting legal expenses, forcing her to finance her defense independently.
Insurance Company Refuses Coverage, Citing Personal Nature of Dispute
New York Marine and General Insurance Co. has taken a firm stance, filing a lawsuit to deny coverage for Perez’s legal defense. The insurer argues that the ongoing family dispute falls outside the scope of her professional responsibilities at Roc Nation, emphasizing that the conflict is strictly personal and unrelated to her role managing Jay-Z’s entertainment empire.
Complex Family Litigation Unfolds
The legal saga began in April 2025 when Perez initiated a lawsuit against her son-in-law, Javon Hadley, accusing him of subjecting Demoree to an abusive relationship and expressing concern for her daughter’s safety. However, the situation escalated when Demoree responded with her own lawsuit a month later, accusing Perez of leveraging her influence and past criminal record to undermine her.
Allegations of Surveillance and Manipulation
According to reports from Billboard, Demoree alleges that Perez engaged in illegal surveillance tactics, including bugging her room and hacking into her iCloud account. She further claims that Perez orchestrated false accusations leading to Javon’s repeated arrests and even arranged for Demoree’s involuntary commitment to a drug rehabilitation center.
Legal Battle Intensifies with Conflicting Narratives
The courtroom exchanges have been intense, with Perez’s legal team asserting their commitment to protecting family interests, while Demoree’s attorneys depict a narrative of abuse of power and familial destruction. Both parties have denied any wrongdoing and sought dismissal of the opposing claims, yet a judge has allowed portions of both lawsuits to proceed.
Insurance Coverage Dispute Moves to Federal Court
In October, Perez sought to have Roc Nation’s commercial insurance policies cover her legal fees. However, the insurer rejected this claim last month, maintaining that the dispute is unrelated to her executive duties and thus excluded from coverage. The company has now petitioned a federal judge to formally declare that they bear no financial responsibility for her defense.
The insurer’s legal filing states, “Desiree does not meet the policies’ definition of ‘insured’ for claims or damages caused by her personal conduct related to a dispute with her daughter and son-in-law.”
High-Profile Family Feud Captivates Public Attention
This case has emerged as one of the most contentious civil disputes involving a prominent figure in the music industry in recent years. The family conflict continues to unfold in federal court, with neither side showing signs of retreat.
Notably, Perez was granted a presidential pardon by Donald Trump in 2021 for previous convictions and has played a pivotal role in elevating Roc Nation’s status. Yet, this ongoing legal ordeal raises questions about whether her professional stature can insulate her from personal challenges.
Demoree Seeks to Revive Dismissed Claims
In November, Demoree filed a motion requesting the court to reopen several claims that had been previously dismissed. She contends that she was denied a fair opportunity to substantiate her allegations before the judge ruled against her.
