Gucci Mane Victimized in Armed Kidnapping and Robbery at Dallas Studio
On January 10, a violent incident unfolded at a Dallas recording studio where rapper Gucci Mane was forcibly kidnapped and robbed at gunpoint by fellow artists Pooh Shiesty and Big30, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Federal Authorities Crack Down: Multiple Arrests Made
Federal officials have apprehended eight suspects linked to the crime, with one individual still evading capture. U.S. Attorney Ryan Rabel provided an overview of the case during a recent press briefing.
“This week, nine individuals, including prominent music figures, orchestrated a coordinated armed kidnapping and robbery targeting several victims at a Dallas music studio. Eight suspects were arrested across Dallas, Memphis, and Nashville,” Rabel stated.
Business Meeting Turns Hostile
The confrontation began when three music industry professionals traveled to Dallas for a scheduled business discussion arranged by Pooh Shiesty, an artist signed under Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records label. The meeting aimed to negotiate contract terms with one of the attendees.
However, once inside the studio, the situation rapidly deteriorated into violence. Rabel detailed the sequence of events:
“Upon entering the studio, Pooh Shiesty and eight accomplices-several traveling from Memphis, Tennessee-executed a premeditated armed takeover. Pooh Shiesty brandished an AK-style firearm, coercing one victim at gunpoint to sign a contract release. Meanwhile, other conspirators displayed weapons and forcibly seized valuables including Rolex watches, jewelry, cash, and other high-end possessions.”
Escalation of Violence and Hostage Tactics
The assault intensified beyond robbery. One victim was reportedly strangled nearly to unconsciousness by one of the assailants. Big30 allegedly blocked the studio’s exit with his body, preventing any escape attempts.
Suspects and Ongoing Manhunt
Those arrested include Pooh Shiesty, Big30, Kadarius Waters, Demarion Gibson, DeMarcus Glover, Corday Johnson, Darian McDaniel, and Pooh Shiesty’s father, Lontrell Williams Sr., who is accused of aiding in the planning and execution of the attack. Terrence Rodgers remains a fugitive.
Significantly, Pooh Shiesty, whose real name is Lantrell Williams Jr., was under home confinement for a prior firearms-related conviction at the time of the crime. His father, Lantrell Williams Sr., is also implicated in the federal kidnapping charges.
Background on Pooh Shiesty’s Legal Troubles
Pooh Shiesty had been released from incarceration in October after serving three years for a gun-related offense. He had pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges involving firearms linked to violent crimes and drug trafficking.
Social Media Posts Lead to Critical Evidence
The suspects made a crucial error by flaunting stolen items on social media shortly after the incident. Rabel noted, “Within hours of the Dallas studio robbery, several defendants posted images of jewelry believed to be stolen from the victims.”
Comprehensive Investigation and Evidence Collection
Federal investigators compiled a robust case using diverse evidence sources: electronic monitoring data confirmed Pooh Shiesty’s presence at the scene; cell phone records, license plate readers, rental car logs, surveillance videos, fingerprint analysis, and Greyhound bus records tracking suspects’ movements from Dallas to Memphis the day after the crime all contributed to the prosecution’s case.
Potential Sentencing and Legal Implications
The charges carry severe consequences, with potential sentences ranging from probation to life imprisonment, depending on prior criminal history and other aggravating factors. Pooh Shiesty’s violation of home confinement conditions further intensifies the legal ramifications.
Artists’ Career Highlights
Pooh Shiesty gained widespread recognition with his 2020 hit “Back in Blood” and secured a deal with Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records. Big30 has also made a name in the rap industry, notably collaborating with Pooh Shiesty on the 2021 track “Neighbors.”
