Atlanta’s Sundresses and Seersuckers: A Premier Celebration of Culture, Style, and Community Impact
Atlanta is once again preparing to host one of its most anticipated springtime gatherings as Sundresses and Seersuckers returns, blending southern charm, fashion, and purposeful community engagement into a vibrant four-day festival.
From a Single Day to a Multi-Day Cultural Phenomenon
Marking its 15th year, Sundresses and Seersuckers has grown far beyond its origins as a one-day event. It now spans an entire weekend, weaving together elements of Black social culture, intentional networking, and philanthropy. This evolution reflects a commitment to creating a meaningful experience that resonates deeply with attendees and the broader Atlanta community.
Visionary Leadership Driving Growth and Impact
The event’s expansion and success are guided by a dynamic leadership team whose diverse expertise mirrors the event’s multifaceted nature.
Larry Rasberry: Strategic Financial Stewardship
Since 2017, co-chair Larry Rasberry, a former finance executive turned strategic funding consultant, has been instrumental in elevating Sundresses and Seersuckers into a nationally recognized event. His financial acumen and operational insight have helped the festival generate millions in revenue, which is reinvested into community programs.
Wendell Span: Championing Community and Education
Co-chair Wendell Span brings over 20 years of experience in educational leadership as a former principal and educator. His focus on mentorship, accessibility, and service ensures the event remains rooted in community empowerment.

Patrick C. Daniel: Global Expertise Meets Local Impact
Rounding out the leadership is Patrick C. Daniel, chairman of Commitment to Excellence and a seasoned human resources executive with extensive international corporate experience. His strategic vision shapes the event’s focus on workforce development and youth empowerment.

A Weekend Packed with Diverse Experiences
What began as a simple day party has blossomed into a cultural destination attracting notable figures such as Jazze Pha, Jazmin Crockett, and Big Tigger. The weekend’s itinerary is thoughtfully curated to offer a variety of experiences that celebrate Black excellence and community.
Thursday: Kickoff with Golf and Socials
The festivities commence with a golf tournament and a “19th Hole” social gathering, setting the tone for connection and celebration.
Friday: Vibrant Music and Marketplace
Friday night features the “Prequel,” a multi-room event offering a spectrum of musical genres including live R&B, neo-soul, Afrobeats, go-go, and energetic DJ performances. Alongside, a growing vendor marketplace and sponsor activations provide attendees with opportunities to engage with Black-owned businesses and brands.
Saturday: Wellness, Community, and the Main Event
The weekend’s highlight shifts to wellness and empowerment with a morning bootcamp and a panel discussion led by Black medical professionals. The main event unfolds at the Home Depot Backyard, combining live performances, curated lounges, VIP experiences, and a dedicated Black beverage showcase featuring over a dozen Black-owned companies.

Continuous Improvement Through Attendee Feedback
Co-chair Wendell Span emphasizes that the event’s growth is a result of deliberate refinement based on patron input. “Every year, that’s our goal,” he shares. “We listen to our patrons. We want to make sure that because they’re coming and supporting us, we are stepping up our game every year.”

Overcoming Challenges with Resilience
Despite facing obstacles such as water main disruptions in 2024 and weather delays last year, the organizers remain optimistic. Span humorously notes, “My biggest thing about this year’s event is having water, but not having the rain. It looks like we’re going to get that this year.”
Focusing on Community Over Celebrity
Unlike many large-scale events, Sundresses and Seersuckers prioritizes its attendees and sponsors over celebrity headliners. Rasberry explains, “It’s not about a national recording artist. It’s about Sundresses and Seersuckers, the patrons and our sponsors, and most importantly, those that we’re able to impact.” This philosophy has become a defining characteristic of the brand.

Philanthropy at the Heart of the Event
Proceeds from Sundresses and Seersuckers support the Black Rhinos mentoring program under Commitment to Excellence, funding scholarships and providing young men with leadership development, life skills, and career opportunities. Daniel highlights the event’s dual role as a cultural celebration and a catalyst for lasting change.
“It’s more than a moment. It’s a movement,” Daniel states. “At first glance, it looks like a vibe, and it is. But what people don’t always see is that this is bigger than a party.”
“When people show up, they’re not just coming to look good,” he adds. “They’re helping fund scholarships. They’re supporting mentorship. They’re opening doors that didn’t exist before.”

Expanding Cultural Influence and National Reach
The event draws attendees from across the United States, attracted by its unique blend of Black excellence, elevated fashion, and purposeful energy. Its strong partnership with the city of Atlanta, including support from Mayor Andre Dickens-who has dubbed the weekend the “official kickoff of summer”-further cements its status as a marquee cultural event.

Ensuring Safety and Preserving Brand Integrity
Operating on an invitation-only basis, Sundresses and Seersuckers maintains a strict dress code and robust security measures to uphold its sophisticated atmosphere. Rasberry underscores the priority placed on attendee safety: “The safety and security is paramount. Personal safety is paramount.”
To protect its unique identity amid the rise of similar events nationwide, Sundresses and Seersuckers is a trademarked brand, with organizers actively safeguarding its reputation and authenticity.

Authenticity Through Expert Execution
Rasberry likens the event’s distinctiveness to a cherished family recipe, quoting Justin Valentine, Keeper of Records & Seal for the Delta Mu Mu chapter: “You can get your grandmama’s recipe, but you won’t be able to prepare it the way that grandmama does.” This analogy highlights the importance of authentic execution in creating the Sundresses and Seersuckers experience.
A Personal Commitment to Brotherhood and Impact
For Span, the event transcends work-it’s about community and meaningful contribution. “It’s not even work,” he says. “It’s being around people I care about and making something meaningful happen.” Daniel echoes this, emphasizing intentional opportunity creation as a means to close societal gaps.
“If we don’t create opportunity intentionally, it doesn’t happen,” Daniel explains. “This is one of the ways that we close the gaps.”
Looking Ahead: A Celebration of Culture and Purpose
As Atlanta readies itself for another weekend filled with stylish seersucker suits, flowing sundresses, and unforgettable moments, Sundresses and Seersuckers continues to exemplify how cultural celebration and community impact can harmoniously coexist in a city renowned for its cultural exports.
In the words of Patrick C. Daniel, “What better combination can you have?”
