Former Black Swan Interns File Suit
A former unpaid intern is taking aim at a regular entertainment industry practice by filing suit against Fox Searchlight Pictures, for his time spent as a production intern on the set of the movie “Black Swan”.
Alex Footman & Eric Glatt are alleging that during the course of their employment, they were forced to do the kinds of things that interns have long been asked to do, like get coffee, take lunch orders, and clean the office. The class-action lawsuit representing more then 100 unpaid interns employed by Searchlight seeks both back payment and to block the production house from improperly using interns. If taken seriously, this suit could not only change the way internships are handled but more importantly, make it harder to break into otherwise impermeable industries.
When reached, a spokesman for the company said, “We just learned of this litigation and have not had a chance to review it so we cannot make any comment at this time.
