Cast of ‘Sparkle’ Continues to Grow

Production for ‘Sparkle’, a remake of the 70′s classic that launched the careers of Phillip
Michael Thomas and Irene Cara, starts shooting next month in Detroit.
The filmed centers around a trio of sisters rise to fame and the conflict it causes within the family set against the backdrop of Motown. Rounding out a cast that includes Jordin Sparks as the lead character, Derek Luke as an aspiring record executive and Whitney Houston as the trio’s mother joins Cee-lo Green as an opening act for the group. Tika Sumpter and Carmen Ejogo will play the other sisters featuring music helmed by none other then R. Kelly.
Mara Brock Akil, best known for her work on television shows like ‘Girlfriends’, ‘The Game’ & ‘Cougar Town’ is writing the script that will be directed by creative partner and husband, Salim Akil.
