Pharoahe Monch Prepares for Upcoming Album Release

New York’s own Pharoahe Monch, alongside Duck Down Records, is gearing up to release his third studio album, W.A.R. (We Are Renegades). A pre-screening of the 13-track LP was held at the NYU Cantor Film Center in Manhattan this evening, where Pharoahe Monch, Dru Ha of Duck Down Records, Sway of MTV, and some of the album’s feature lineup including Jean Grae, Mela Machinko, DJ Boogie Blind, Marco Polo, Immortal Technique, and more were in attendance. With a release date of March 22nd, Pharoahe Monch has already wrapped up filming the first video for the album, which will provide visuals for “Clap (One Day),” a song pertaining to police brutality. Starring Gbenga Akinnagbe, of HBO’s The Wire, and filmed in Brooklyn in conjunction with the Bed Stuy Film Co-Op, the video is a fitting, and rightly chilling illustration of Pharoahe’s lyrics, which are accompanied by guest appearances on the track from Showtyme and Boogie Blind.

Production on W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) includes beats from Marco Polo, Exile, Diamond D, M-Phazes, and more, and lyrical features include Styles P, Immortal Technique, Jill Scott, and Royce Da 5’9, among others. Fans who purchase the album from iTunes will receive a copy of the “Clap” video, and fans in the Tri-State area can catch Pharoahe Monch live at SOB’s on March 24th. A European tour is also said to be in the works.
