Vybz Kartel, Weh Di Bleaching Fah?
Vybz Kartel looks like a brand new man. A light-skinned one as a result of skin bleaching.
This story has been buzzing for quite some time now. Initial reports about Vybz Kartel bleaching his skin begun around mid-September.
I guess the story was still minor and only relevant to caribbean outlets for all of this time because it hadn’t hit major gossip sites until recently and it’s now mid-January.
Vibe Mag Online reported today Kartel has bleached his skin and is defending his new look, however, skin bleaching doesn’t happen overnight. Things like that take time.
What could possibly bring him to such self-hatred? Well, he doesn’t see it as such.
In an interview he said, “This is my new image. You can expect the unexpected.”
He also said, “I feel comfortable with black people lightening their skin. They want a different look. It’s tantamount to white people getting a sun tan.”
He isn’t illogical by comparing bleaching to tanning in the difference it makes on your skin complexion, but for some reason, it’s just not the same thing at all.
The funny part is, this isn’t a new fad. We’ve seen a ton of celebrities gradually get lighter. Sammie Sosa?
This also isn’t new for Jamaicans. The color complex has been an issue on the island for years. Remember that 1992 tune “Dem a Bleach” by Nardo Ranks?
Vybz Kartel has a song similar to it called, “Weh Di Bleaching Fah?”
Not too sure when the song was first released, but it’s a little ironic hearing it now, don’t you think?
The song is hilarious though. He asks, “How you black and white?” “How you afraid of the sun?”
One might wonder if he asked himself these same questions before bleaching his own skin?
And there’s no surprise here that Vybz Kartel is now endorsing his own brand of cake soap that lightens your skin.
Reggae veteran, Bounty Killer, has said that it doesn’t work because his own mother has tried it and it hasn’t bleached her skin yet.
Bounty Killer believes that Kartel is using something much stronger on his skin.
It’s just so surprising to see how much effort people put into this. Needless to say, Kartel has received tons of backlash from his fans.
At least he was upfront and didn’t deny it, right?
