Teen Fashion Designer Kyemah McEntyre: From Prom To The Red Carpet! [Details+Photo]

How inspiring is this story?! Unless you’ve been living under a rock during this passed #PromSeason you’ve seen this brown beauty Kyemah McEntyre floating on your timelines and newsfeed courtesy of her phenomenal, one-of-a-kind prom dress which she designed herself.

The 18 year old graduate broke the internet with a stunning african printed gown that complemented everything on her prom night a few weeks ago. Now fast forward to this passed Sunday at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, ‘Power’ star  Naturi Naughton graced the 2015 BET Awards red carpet in none other than a custom design by Kye!

How’d that happen? Check out the highlights below in an exclusive interview  with Nicole Bitchie:

Kyemah told blog Necole Bitchie that Naturi got in touch with her after her prom dress picture was shared thousands of times.
Naturi also wanted to pay homage to her African heritage. ‘She wanted to connect with her African roots as well,’ says Kyemah. ‘I explained to her that my prom dress was my first design ever and that her design would be my second. So, of course, I asked her to bear with me.’
Of the design process, she adds: ‘She wanted to shed light on young people from her community [East Orange, New Jersey] and that she did. I enlisted a local seamstress by the name of Markell Mockabee, who brought my design to life.’

Kyemah said the response to her designs has been ‘amazing.’

‘People ask me all the time how does it feel, and I tell them it’s just amazing to be celebrated for just being myself,’ she said, adding: ‘I wanted to inspire little girls to be themselves; however, it this has definitely exceeded my expectations.’

Moral of the story? Life can be more rewarding when you embrace exactly who you are. YOURSELF!
