Jet Blue Airline Comes To Aid Family Who’s Daughter Died In Fatal Fire [Photo]
Jet Blue will be the wind beneath the wings of a heartbroken Hamilton Heights family having trouble scraping together the money needed to bury their 15-year-old angel, who perished in a blistering fire. The airline reached out to fire victim Melissa Mendez’s family over the weekend and has offered to shave funeral expenses by offering free flights to the Dominican Republic, where the teen will be buried, an airline spokeswoman said.
JetBlue learned about the Mendez family’s plight after reading a story about their struggles in the Daily News. “We are now in contact with the family members and are working to assist them,” said Elizabeth Ninomiya, corporate communications manager for JetBlue Airways’ Latin American and Caribbean region.
City Councilman Mark Levine (D-Manhattan) and other community leaders have been raising money for the funeral, as well as support for the 60 people who lived in the fire-ravaged building.
Our sincerest condolences go out to the Mendez family. If you would like to make a donation, click here.
