Wrong-way Crash Kills 2 On New York State Thruway [Video]
This tragic incident occurred earlier this morning (Tuesday) leaving two people dead, one of which was an off-duty police officer.
NY Daily News reports; One of the drivers killed Tuesday in a wrong-way crash on the New York State Thruway was an NYPD officer, sources said.
The cop was off duty at the time of the collision in Rockland County, the sources said. The crash, which happened about 7 a.m. in Suffern, involved a Dodge pickup truck and an SUV of some kind, the state police said.
One of the vehicles was heading south in the northbound lane when it struck the other vehicle, they said,It’s not clear which vehicle the officer was driving. But neither he nor the other doomed driver had passengers in their trucks.
This was the third such crash on state highways in the New York City metro area this summer, according to a tally by the Poughkeepsie Journal. Francisco Herrera, 30, of the Bronx, was charged with driving while intoxicated July 16 after he crashed his vehicle head on into another on the Saw Mill Parkway.
Neither Herrera nor the woman driving the Subaru were seriously hurt. On July 12, 63-year-old David Gray of Connecticut was hit with driving while intoxicated and other charges after cops caught him driving the wrong way on Interstate 684.
