Ex-New Jersey Woman Charged With Killing Her 5 Yr. Old Son Over 20 Yrs Ago [Video]
A 47-year-old woman was arrested for killing her 5-year-old son more than two decades after the child’s remains were found at a New Jersey industrial park, authorities said. Michelle Lodzinski was cuffed at her Port St. Lucie, Fla., home on Wednesday — the same day her son, Timothy Wiltsey, would have celebrated his 29th birthday, authorities said.
The boy’s skeletal remains were found in a marshy stretch of land in Edison — not far from where Lodzinski used to work — on April 23, 1992. The grisly find came nearly a year after Lodzinski, then a 23-year-old single mother, told police her son disappeared during a Memorial Day carnival at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park in Sayreville. She later changed her story and told cops that the child had been abducted.
After the boy’s partial remains were found, investigators ruled his death a homicide and considered his mother a suspect — but there was never enough evidence to charge her with the murder. But when Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey’s office recently reopened the case, investigators found the evidence needed to arrest Lodzinski.
“Following a routine, cold case review of the evidence and facts surrounding the disappearance and murder of Timothy Wiltsey, a new investigation was conducted and the matter was presented to the grand jury,” Carey said in a statement. Details of the case were not immediately released.
Lodzinski — the mother of two other grown children — was ordered held in lieu of $2 million bail at the Martin County Jail in Stuart, Fla., where she was waiting to be extradited on Thursday.
