Joe Torre Forgets To Mention George Steinbrenner in Hall Of Fame Speech [Video]
Joe Torre who made his career after improbable success with the New York Yankees was inducted into the professional baseball Hall of Fame today.
A feat he would not have accomplished if he were not hired by the organization. Yet, the always classy Torre made sure he thanked him after his speech, in which he just over looked Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.
According to MLB Torre said,
“I missed mentioning and thanking the most obvious guy in the world when you’re talking about the Yankees,” Torre said in opening the post-ceremony media conference. “My plan was to thank him and [mention] the fact that we had a great relationship. It was so obvious that I was going to do it that I just went right past it and the whole Steinbrenner family. It was the proudest time in my career.”
Over his managerial career he compiled a .538 winning persentage, won American League manager of the year twice (1996, 1998), and has won the World Series four times.
