LA Kings Win Stanley Cup After Double OT Thriller [Video]
The Los Angeles Kings are the NHL Stanley Cup Champions once again after beating the New York Rangers last night 3-2 in double overtime.
The winning goal was made by Kings deffense man Alec Martinez. To say he was overjoyed would be an understatment.
According to ESPN,
“After it went in, I think I blacked out,” Martinez said. “I’m just so happy for these guys.”
Unlike the past games the Rangers did not get a lead early and lose it late. In fact for the entire match both teams were neck and neck.
For the Rangers, they have no regrets. Other than a few pucks not going there way they played relativley good hockey. The Kings where just the better team.
“You go into this hoping that you don’t regret anything,” Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. “We put it out there. We gave our best shot, best effort. Three games here all went to OT. What can I say?”
For the Kings now is it time to start proclaiming this team a dynasty? They are the first team to win back to back cups since the Detroit Red Wings did it in the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons.
Defenseman Drew Doughty beleives it is possible but they still have a ways to go.
“I don’t know if we’re part of (a dynasty) yet, but hopefully we’re on our way to that,” defenseman Drew Doughty said. “I believe this group could be at that point, but it’s going to take a lot of work.”
To the Kings Congrats! To the Rangers, lets not wait another 20 years to get back to the Finals!!
