Twitter Explodes Both In Favor of Michael Sam and Against ESPN [Details]

Every historical day comes with a bit of controversy.

Michael Sam who is now the first openly gay player in the NFL after being drafted by the St. Louis Rams got tremendous support from twitter with “Congrats Michael Sam” trending.

People for all over the world gave their support to Sam who has changed the culture not only in the NFL but in sports.

Now for the controversy. Their was a lot of people who were not mad at Sam but at ESPN. Why you ask? Well because ESPN showed Sam kiss and embrace his boyfriend.

A lot of people where more uncomfortable than angry with “OK ESPN” also trending on twitter.

This shows that the world is certainly changing, maybe to fast for some to handle. If you would have bet me that ESPN, the world wide leader in sports would show two gay men kissing 5 years ago I would have put everything I had that it would never happen.

Well It did and the “deal with it” phase begins, for everyone who found themselves feeling uncomfortable in that moment but knows that they have nothing against Michael Sam or gay people in general.

What I found more disturbing was the absence of Sam’s parents. If they where there they did not get shown on camera.

If you remember back when Sam first came out, an article was written saying that Sam’s father (Michael Sam Sr) was not accepting of his son’s sexuality. So maybe that could have caused a rift between the two.

What do you guys think? Did ESPN go to far or is it something society has to deal with and move on, and could Michael Sam and his father be at odds right now?
