If Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak Had It His Way, Pau Gasol Will Stay A Laker

Los Angeles Lakers have had a tough year with Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash being out most of the season, and Pau Gasol seeing significant time on the injury list as well as he tries to recover with a bout of vertigo.

With his upcoming free agency coming in the off-season, there is a chance Gasol could go to another team, one which may have a better chance at contending with a championship than the Lakers currently do.

Yet, if the team’s general manager Mitch Kupchak has anything to say about it, Gasol will be wearing the purple and yellow for another couple years. Here’s what he said to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News,

“There’s great interest in re-signing Pau back. I don’t know why there would not be interest. He’s a Hall of Famer. But by virtue of being a free agent, he’s in the market place. By being in the market place, we have to see how things play out.”

The big man is averaging 17.4 points per game, 9.7 rebounds a game and 3.4 assists with a young team looking forward to the future.

It seems like every year there are rumors of Pau Gasol being traded to another team. Do you think that will stop if he were signed for another couple years and the Lakers were bad again next year?

What do you guys think?
