Jets Release Corner Back Antonio Cromartie [Details]

Nobody’s job is safe in the NFL, not even Pro Bowl players. Defensive Back Antonio Cromartie is just one of the more resent examples of this.

After playing in the Pro Bowl only six weeks ago Cromartie was released by the New York Jets yesterday.

This decision in NFL circles was not that much of a surprise. Although Cromartie did make it to the Pro Bowl statistically is was the worst season of his career, which lead to the Jets being ranked 22nd in the NFL in pass defense.

Cromartie is also 30 years old and has a chronic hip issue that plagued him throughout last season.

According to ESPN.com, with Cromartie’s release the Jets have created $9.5 million in cap space, giving them a total of $30 million in total cap room which they plan on using to get a big time free agent in the weeks to come.

Cromartie did leave with some class thanking both the Jets organization and fan base via Twitter
