Chris Smith Reporedly Walked Away From D-League Roster
Chris Smith, the brother of New York Knicks J.R. Smith has reportedly been dropped from his D-League team due to an issue with playing time.
Smith was originally signed as part of a an agreement between the Knicks and the elder brother which brought him to the team’s roster and also guaranteed him $490,000 this season.
There was immediate beef between the team and Smith following a release which included a lot of press.
After his release he ended up signing with the Erie BayHawks of the NBA D-League but ironically argued over his place on the roster.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York,
“League sources told ESPNNewYork.com on Tuesday that the younger Smith had several run-ins with the BayHawks’ coaching staff, which contributed to the team’s decision to release him.”
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports added to the report, saying that Smith walked away from the team a few days ago.
“Before Erie released Chris Smith today, he had packed up and left team several days ago, source tells Yahoo. Didn’t like his playing time.”
It is not yet known what Chris Smiths next move will be.
