According to ESPN.com Michael Sam Sr. told the Galveston Daily News that he does not want people to think he has a problem with his son’s sexuality.
In the New York Times Article Sam Sr was quoted saying “I’m old school,” he added. “I’m a man-and-a-woman type of guy.” and “I don’t want my grandkids raised in that kind of environment.
According to ESPN.com Sam Sr. responded to the Galveston Daily News,
saying he [Sam Sr.] never told the Times he was an old-school, “man-and-a-woman type of guy” or that he didn’t want his grandkids “raised in that kind of environment.” “I did not say anything about my grandkids,” the Galveston paper quoted him as saying.
Sam Sr. did acknowledge that most of his story was accurately portrayed by the Times but some of his thoughts where very much misconstrued.
According to ESPN.com, the Times emailed the Galveston Daily News saying that their reporting was solid and Sam Sr. was quated “accuratly and fairly”.
In the end Sam Sr. told the paper that he loves his son and that he made the right decision and he wishes they spent more time together.
According to ESPN.com when Sam Jr. came home from school he would stay with his friends instead of his family.
