NFL & Players Reactions To Openly Gay Prospect [Photo]

If you have been living in a box, defensive end Michael Sam of the University of Missouri, openly stated that he was gay, months before he is set to be drafted to the NFL.

Many players from the NFL, reacted to the news, a groundbreaking event for the culture of the NFL.

Former NFL punter Chris Kluwe put his job on the line with the Minnesota Vikings by openly supporting gay marriage. He wrote on his experiences soon after earlier in January.

There was also a perception and rumor about current San Diego Chargers linebacker Manti Te’o regarding his sexual orientation before he was drafted.

The NFL released a statement shortly after news broke.

“We admire Michael Sam’s honesty and courage. Michael is a football player.  Any player with ability and determination can succeed in the NFL.  We look forward to welcoming and supporting Michael Sam in 2014.”

It is being reported that since the announcement he has dropped on the projected CBS NFL  Draft Board, originally being #90 on the list and moving to #160.

The issue was so big, that Miami Dolphins teammates turned foes, Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito both reacted to the news. It should be noted that there have also been rumors of Martin’s sexual orientation as well in light of his latest controversy.
