Fine Arts Show Coming To Harlem [Photo]
For all the art lovers out there! Riverside Church in Harlem,(NYC) will be the official venue for this ‘Fine Arts’ show!
The Harlem Fine Arts Show — an annual five-day art extravaganza — kicks off Thursday at the historic Riverside Church with nearly 100 visual artists, not to mention former Washington Redskins linebacker Andre Collins. This year’s exhibition — the fifth since its inception — will showcase local artists including Leroy Campbell, Paul Goodnight, Michael Escoffery, Frank Frazier, Woodrow Nash, Dane Tilghman and Brenda Joysmith, among others.
“Harlem is a great place for us to have it,” Harlem Fine Arts Show founder Dion Clarke told the Daily News. “We’re trying to make sure the neighborhood stay relevant.”
Every piece of art featured, Clarke said, has been chosen for the way it represents African diaspora — from abstract paintings to mixed medium works and everything in between. Campbell, a self-taught artist whose mixed-media pieces evoke a Harlem from the seminal period of its world-famous Renaissance, said he’s proud his work will be featured.
This year, proceeds will go to the Harlem School of the Arts, a bastion of arts education in Harlem. “We thought it was so important that there’s a good understanding of art and culture in the African diaspora,” Clarke explained.
Students from across the tri-state area are invited to tour the show Jan. 31 — free of charge — and meet the artists.
The show has skyrocketed in popularity, rising from 20 artists at its 2010 inception to about 90 today. The sale of art has also soared to more than $2.2 million.
Show will begin January 30th through February 2nd 2014. Interested in attending? Get your ticket(s) at HFAS.ORG !
