Happy 72nd Birthday Muhammed Ali! [Video]

Happy Birthday to one of the greatest fighters of all time, and quite possibly the most engaging personality in the history of sports, Muhammed Ali who turns 72 today.

His overall record is 56 Wins (37 knockouts) and 5 Losses, but the man formally known as Cassius Clay was more than that.

He provided us with endless quotes, and some of the greatest fights in history.

Key fights from Sonny Liston and Ernie Terrell made up the first half of his career. Yet it was what happened after that defined his place in history.

On June 20, 1967 he was convicted for refusing to be drafted to the Army in the midst of the war in Vietnam. During the time leading to his his trial, he was not able to fight until he learned of his sentencing.

He was sentenced to five years in prison and fined $10,000 for draft evasion. Before the Supreme Court overturned his conviction he had not fought in the prime of his career, from age 25-28 between the years of 1967-1970.

When he returned, he faced a challenge to win his Heavyweight title back. That resulted in legendary fights against Joe Frazier and George Foreman.

Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson’s syndrome in 1984. His health had been deteriorating since, and is now no longer the charismatic figure that stood in his younger days.
