Detroit Lions Hire Jim Caldwell As New Head Coach
The Detroit Lions have a new head coach.
Jim Caldwell has been hired to replace Jim Schwartz to lead a team full of Super Bowl aspirations that underachieved this season with a 7-9 record.
Lions were originally looking to be set to hire San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, but he instead decided to take the job with the Tennessee Titans.
Caldwell replaced Tony Dungy as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts when he decided to retire in 2009. They reached the Super Bowl that year to the New Orleans Saints.
He is the second minority head coach to be hired in the NFL this season. It is significant because of the outcry of lack of minority head coaches being present in the NFL last season.
