Rumors About Robert Griffin III’s Influence Could Be True
Washington Redskins let go of head coach Mike Shanahan amid rumors that his quarterback Robert Griffin III had too much influence with the organization.
Rumors could prove true as Sally Jenkins of the Washington Post reports that the star player bragged about his status with the front office, and that he will have his hand on this next head coach of the team
Whomever the Redskins hire, his job will depend on placating Griffin. He appears to view himself as a finished dropback passer who simply wasn’t given adequate help from fired coach Mike Shanahan. The lesson from this season is that he has the power to discard any part of the playbook he dislikes, and if his sack numbers are high, it will be the fault of the protections, not him.
According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk it makes it that more difficult to find the right head coach of the team.
That makes it even more critical that the Redskins find the right coach — not the guy who says all the right things before he signs his contract but the guy who will embrace Griffin and not try to demonstrate to the quarterback that there’s a new sheriff in town.
With the team finishing 3-13 this year, and teammates not getting along with the quarterback, the future doesn’t look too bright for the team (who is only minutes away from an identity crisis due to the controversy around their name,) and good for the rest of the NFC East.
