Los Angeles Lakers Looking To Swap Pau Gasol For Andrew Bynum?
They once played on the same team. Now they may be traded for each other.
The Los Angeles Lakers are rumored to be looking to trade Pau Gasol for Andrew Bynum according to ESPN.
With Bynum falling out of favor with the Cleveland Cavaliers after being suspended for conduct detrimental to the team, the Lakers might use him to try to beat the system and gain more cap room for the upcoming draft and free agency period.
The report says the Lakers could save tons of money and in turn choose to pair an aging Kobe Bryant with another star to prepare for one more run before his retirement.
By trading Gasol in a package for Bynum and then waiving Bynum, the injury-ravaged Lakers could save more than $20 million in salary and luxury taxes, which could help them maintain financial flexibility heading into the next few summers. A Gasol-Bynum trade would have to include at least one other player to make the deal work under league rules, and perhaps other assets from Cleveland.
Lakers have been taking feelers on Pau Gasol in recent weeks, even looking to see if the struggling Brooklyn Nets would swap him for injured center Brook Lopez.
