Vitali Klitschko Vacates Heavyweight Title Politics [Video]

There will be a new heavyweight champion of the world in boxing.

Vitali Klitschko has vacated his titled to run for president in his home nation of Ukraine.

Knowing he had to defend the world title next year because of WBC rules, the champion had to make a decision whether to run for president in a country needing change amid a revolution in the country.

Although Klitschko will have to drop the belt. He was declared “Champion Emeritus” meaning he can return and immediately challenge for the title if he so chooses. He spoke to the Associated Press about his decision.

“This offer makes it theoretically possible to return to the ring, which I cannot imagine at all happening as things stand now. I am now concentrating on the politics in Ukraine, I feel people need me there.”

The WBC will be announcing the next challengers for the Heavyweight championship in the near future. The next contenders for the title are Bermane Stiverne, Chris Arreola, Deontay Wilder respectively.
