Run-D.M.C. & The Sugarhill Gang Offically Inducted into Grammy Hall of Fame

For all the old school hip hop heads who remember when Run-D.M.C. linked up with AeroSmith to teach the new generation how to “Walk This Way”. Better yet how about when the Sugarhill Gang put the the boogie to the beat on their classic hit “Rapper’s Delight”. Well the Grammy’s sure enough did.

Sugarhill Gang’s breakout track “Rapper’ Delight” and Run-D.M.C.’s crossover hit “Walk This Way” will both be enshrined at the Grammy Museum at L.A. LIVE, along side records from the acts of Sam Cooke, James Brown, Gil Scott-Heron, The Rolling Stones and Miles Davis.

The President and CEO of The Recording Academy, Neil Portnow stated:

This year’s Grammy Hall Of Fame entries (spanning the 1930s-1980s) represent a diverse collection of influential and historically significant recording. Memorable and inspiring, these recordings are proudly added to our growing catalog — knowing that they have become a part of our musical, social, and cultural history.

Looks like the Grammys just maybe trying to combating the idea of them being biases toward the hip hop genre. It wasn’t until 1989 hip-hop had its own category and 1996 was the first year rap albums were even nominated do to the belief that hip-hop was a ‘singles genre.’
