‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Breaks Box Office Records Over Thanksgiving Holiday
It’s actually not all the shocking; but over the long holiday weekend the second Hunger Games installment, Catching Fire, completely swept the box bringing in a whopping $110.2 million. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the film grossed about $74.5 million, making it the fourth-best second weekend gross in history. Catching Fire also successfully breaking the record for highest-grossing film during the five-day Thanksgiving weekend previously set by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001.
The Francis Lawrence directed film wasn’t the only one to set records this weekend. Frozen’s debut was the biggest debut for Disney animated films since “The Lion King”. Frozen also broke Toy Story 2’s 14-year-old record for the biggest Thanksgiving box office debut of all time, grossing $93 million over five days and $66.7 million from Friday to Sunday.
Thor: The Dark World claimed the number three spot with $15.5 million with Best Man Holiday taken the number four spot with $11.1 million.
