LeBron James To Join Forces With David Beckham For New Soccer Team?
Usually you see an athlete invest into a team after their career is over. Magic Johnson bought into the Los Angeles Dodgers, Michael Jordan bought into the Charlotte Bobcats.
Yet LeBron James is looking to invest into…. a soccer team?
James is looking into joining Soccer superstar David Beckham to build an expansion team in Miami for the Major League Soccer league. Since Beckham had a deal to come to the states and play for the Los Angeles Galaxy, he can buy a team for just $25 million.
In comments to the Miami Herald, LeBron spoke on his interest in joining forces with Beckham.
“There is some interest on both sides. David has become a good friend of mine over the last few years and I think it would be great for this city to have a football club. There is interest on both sides, but it’s preliminary talks but there is some open dialogue.”
“I think it could be huge. You never know. I think this is a great town for soccer. There’s a lot of soccer players, there’s great youth soccer players here and people love the city as well. That definitely would help.”
“I’ve grown a great interest in watching the game and learning the guys. It’s a pretty intense sport. My kids love it as well. I’ve grown to the point where I know exactly what’s going on when I’m watching the game.”
In 2011, James invested in Liverpool, which is the Yankees of soccer teams in Europe.
