Rihanna to Receive Icon Award At AMAs

Remember back when Micheal Jackson won the first ever “artist of the millennium award” during the 2002 VMA’s. Well it looks like Rihanna will be following in his footsteps only the pop powerhouse will be honored at this years American Music Award with the first ever Icon Award.

the AMA producer, Larry Klein, stated:

The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level […] Rihanna’s iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and bestselling artists of all time.

The 25-year-old singer has sold 50 million albums and 180 million singles worldwide throughout the course of her career with 12 No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Rihanna is also nominated in four categories including Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist, and Favorite Soul/R&B Album for Unapologetic.

The American Music Awards airs live on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 8 p.m. on ABC with performances by RiRi herself, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, TLC, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miley Cyrus, Kendrick Lamar, Ke$ha and One Direction, with Pitbull serving as this years host.
