Petition For V.S. To Hire A Transgender Angel Reaches Over 35,000 Signatures [Video]
Being picked to become a Victoria’s Secret Angle is quite a challenge for any model. So imagine being a transgender model with this dream. Just last week a petition was created in support of former Logo reality series RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, Carmen Carrera, on Change.org in hopes of persuading Victoria’s Secret to hire her as its first transgender angel.
Carmen reportedly told ET that she dreams to “strut the runway of the Victoria’s Secret fashion show“, and with this years show just around the corner and over 35,000 signatures (with the numbers only increasing by the minute) who knows it just may happen. Check out Carmen’s interview with ET and the petition her fans put together below.
The petition reads:
“By asking Carmen to be a model, Victoria’s Secret would show the entire community that they embrace trans patrons. There are so many prejudices toward the trans community, even within the LGBT community, and many trans individuals are not seen as real people. To see a transgender model walk would show that trans women are to be taken seriously and that Angels are selected because of their character and talent. As a brand, Victoria’s Secret should feel comfortable marketing towards ALL types of women.”
Miranda Kerr announced she wouldn’t be walking in this year’s show. So there’s definitely an open spot. Your move, VS. Carrera says she “looks forward to your response” and that she’ll “be here waiting.”
