In the latest wave of violence to hit Iraq, a series of attacks including car bombings in Baghdad, an explosion at a market and a suicide assault in a northern city killed at least 66 people Sunday across Iraq. Coordinated bombings hit Iraq multiple times a month, in a spike of bloodshed that has killed more than 5,000 people since April. The bombs were placed in parked cars and targeted commercial area and parking lots as well as the use of a suicide bomber who killed a group of soldiers. Such coordinated attacks are a favorite tactic of al-Qaeda’s local branch which frequently targets civilians in Shiite areas in an attempt to shake up the government’s confidence and security forces.
