New Artist Spot Light: Baiyu ‘Surrender’
From a young age, Baiyu has been forging her musical path. Female icons Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston captivated her, and the emotion and power from these soulful divas sparked a newfound romance in Baiyu for vocal performance.
While singing has always been the core of Baiyu’s creative experience, she also immersed herself in activities outside of music such as dance and theatrical arts. As a model and actress, she has worked with Seventeen Magazine, appeared in multiple independent films, and was a host for MTVu’s hit show “The Freshmen” for three years.
Irrespective of her hopes to become an entertainer, she remained focused in her studies, graduating in 2008 from Princeton University; where she was a member of the Black Arts Dance Company and a vocalist for the University’s Jazz Ensemble.
As a singer/songwriter, Baiyu’s music videos are on rotation on MTV Networks and her story told on SoulTrain; as a fresh face on television Baiyu speaks for her generation as a VJ for mtvU and host on MYX TV; as a young fashionista, Baiyu has graced the pages of PYNK magazine and taken the world on a tour of Fashion Week through the lens of Papercut Magazine. In 2011, this musical talent and philanthropist released her second EP, Fan Fair, which took her all around the world, and allowed her to contribute the proceeds of her release to the Japanese Tsunami relief efforts. In 2012, Baiyu is set to take on a new chapter in her story as she makes her acting debut in the independent film scene and continues to share her music with an ever growing and devoted international fan base.
