House G.O.P. Discusses Short-Term Fix on Debt Limit [Photo]

Republicans gathered this morning to discuss a plan set forth by Representative Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin to lift the government’s statutory borrowing limit for six weeks until November 22 in a move that House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, calls “half way to what [President Obama] has demanded.” For their part, the White House has shown its support for a temporary debt ceiling increase come November 22 when the government’s current borrowing limit ceases. The larger debate of the standoff in Congress still remains with the Democratic party saying they will not negotiate a larger budget deal until Republicans pass legislation to end the current government shutdown.
