Iran Insists On ‘Absolute Right’ To Enrich Uranium [Photo]

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif insisted on Monday that his country has the “absolute right” to enrich uranium on its soil during a meeting in Tehran with the visiting Swiss deputy foreign minister, Yves Rossier. The West and Israel have long accused Iran of attempting to develop nuclear bombs under the guise of a civilian programme. At a meeting in Almaty (a major city in Kazakhstan) earlier in the year, Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States offered a proposal to Iran to halt uranium enrichment in return for reduced gold and petrochemicals sanctions, but to no avail. US Secretary of State John Kerry urged Iran to come up with new proposals on Monday of which would “fully disclose how they will show the world that their programme is peaceful.”
