A number of Kenya’s Cabinet members and defense officials were warned about the possibility of a Westgate-style attack by terror group Al-Shabaab a year before gunman stormed the Nairobi mall, according to several police and intelligence sources. In a sad revelation, some of the hostages taken during the attack were tortured, amputated and hanged. The warnings were made by the country’s National Intelligence Service as part of regular situational reports which contained an extensive list of reports across several regions of Kenya. Members Members of Parliament are expected to begin grilling intelligence bosses on Monday over the apparent intelligence failures.
