China Police Rescue 92 Abducted Children [Photo]

Police in China have rescued 92 abducted children following a series of raids against an organised kidnapping gang operating across the country. The children were rescued along with two women while more than 300 gang members were taken into custody. The investigation was initially sparked by a child abduction case in central China and snowballed across 11 provincial-level regions primarily throughout China’s southwest. The arrests come at a time of growing public outrage concerning gangs specialising in the kidnap and sale of children in China’s burgeoning child trafficking industry. Trafficking is blamed in part due to China’s well known “one-child” policy with the lesser favorable female children oftentimes being sold off or abandoned.
