Eight Held Over Nairobi Mall Attack, al Shabaab Issues New Threat [Photo]
Kenyan authorities are holding eight people in connection with last week’s attack by Islamist militants on a Nairobi shopping mall that killed 67 civilians and soldiers. Somali Islamist group al Shabaab have warned that their latest series of terrorist attacks will only persist. Al Shabaab claim their attacks are a result of their adamant demand that Kenya withdraw its troops from Somalia, where Kenyan forces deployed in 2011 to strike at al Shabaab which Nairobi blamed for attacks and kidnappings that were occurring in Kenya’s northern area and coastline. On the northern Kenyan border, residents have reported more Kenyan troop activity, further fueling speculation of further possible threats from al Shabaab.
