NYC Politicians OK Naming Street After Yankees’ Mariano Rivera!
“I am a big Mariano Rivera fan for the record,” Mayor Bloomberg said. “He’s had a phenomenal career, it’s really amazing if you take a look at his record. I’ll leave that up to the City Council — I do not want to step on their prerogative.
“But this guy certainly deserves our admiration.” – nypost
NY Post writer originally wrote in jest about how a colleague Tom Ferrera noticed River Ave right outside Yankee Stadium, and for curiosities sake was thinking what if you add an “a” on the end to make “Rivera Ave?”
NY Post writer originally wrote in jest about how a colleague Tom Ferrera noticed River Ave right outside Yankee Stadium, and for curiosities sake was thinking what if you add an “a” on the end to make “Rivera Ave?”Well his prayers were answered, as Mayor Bloomberg, a die-hard Mets fan, and many City Council members are thumbs up for the idea! There is one bump in the road though; an entire street can only be named after the deceased! A block can be named after a icon that is still alive! There was some skepticism, probably moreso for attention or the WOW factor, from Craig Carton, host of WFAN’s “Boomer & Carton” radio show who actually interviewed Ferrera?! Some Yankees players helped endorse the idea along the way!
