Ailing Mandela Is Sent Home In Critical Condition [Photo]
Former South African President Nelson Mandela was discharged from a hospital after three months of intensive care for a chronic lung infection and sent to his home in Johannesburg. The 95-year old’s condition has “vacillated between serious to critical and at times unstable.” Mandela was first taken to the hospital on June 8 and his condition has continued to deteriorate from there. With his current condition being described as “critical,” it is believed that Mandela has been returned home to pass peacefully but will continue to receive intensive care treatment. The anti-apartheid hero had previously contracted tuberculosis during his 27-year prison detainment under South Africa’s white minority rule.
