Russia to US: Don’t Repeat Iraq ‘Mistakes’ With Syria [Photo]

In a statement yesterday, the Russian Foreign Ministry drew a parallel between alleged reports of chemical weapons use by the Sryian government and claims by President George W. Bush’s administration that Saddam Hussein was in possession of weapons of mass destruction – claims which lead to a U.S.-led invasion of Iraq a decade ago. This comes on the heels of yesterday’s claims by U.S. officials for the Obama administration reporting they had “very little doubt” of chemical weapon use in Syria.

Moscow has forewarned the U.S. against assigning blame without a complete investigation by U.N. chemical arms inspectors saying, “We once again decisively urge (the United States) not to repeat the mistakes of the past.” During a CNN interview last week, Obama stated that the U.S. would not respond militarily to chemical use claims in Syria without both an official mandate and support from the international community.
