Ichiro bows Soriano

“Having the 4,000th hit was important, but what is going to make it the most special moment was the fact that the players, my teammates, came out,” Ichiro said. “When I look back on this, that’s what’s going to make this very special.”

“He’s a great player,” manager Joe Girardi said, “and he’s been a great player for a long time.” – nypost

Red Sox ‘Big Papi’ backs A-Rod with suspension and teammate beaning him, A-Rod vows to stay quiet while Yankees still in Playoff hunt

chiro Suzuki name can be hoisted up next to the great Ty Cobb and Pete Rose now after notching 4,000 hits, as the Yankees heroically came back to beat the Blue Jays 4-2 last night! The bench cleared when Ichiro got his hit, and he was shocked and amazed with the camaraderie from his fellow teammates! Alfonso Soriano swooped in to save the day clocking a two-run home-run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Yankees ahead, and put the Blue Jay’s (former Mets) ace R.A. Dickey to sleep! The Yankees have now won 10 of their last 14 games, and now are only four games back from the A’s and 6 1/2 games back from our foe the Boston Red Sox! Read more on Ichiro below!

Ichiro Suzuki 4000

“[Mine] is a record that is from two leagues. Those guys did it in one league,” he said. “I don’t think you have to put me in that same category as them.” – nypost

Ichiro Suzuki got 4,000 hits combined with 2,722 hits in his decorated 15-year career in MLB, and the other 1,278 hits in Japan’s Pacific League! Ichiro is only 278 hits shy of the 3,000 mark in MLB! Pete Rose finished his career with 4,256 hits and Ty Cobb finished with 4,191 hits! Ichiro himself (quote above) and others may take away from the stat because he didn’t get all of his hits in MLB, but if you look at the numbers I do not think it would been a problem for him! In his 13 MLB seasons, Ichiro has a career .320 average, 470 steals, 10 All-Star appearances and 10 Gold Gloves, ranking as one of the sport’s finest outfielders of the last 15 years.
