More Than 900 Dead, EU Weighs Cutting Aid in Egypt [Photo]

With the uprise of violence in Egypt following the destruction of two pro-Morsi supporter camps in Cairo last Wednesday, the European Union now is questioning billions of dollars in aid for Egypt. Today ambassadors of 28 members of the EU will meet in Brussels, Belgium to discuss the future of aid to Egypt. Last November, the EU pledged $6.7 billions dollars in grants and loans to Egypt to aid in its transition to democracy contingent upon implementation of reforms. So far, very little has yet to be distributed. Egypt has vehemently ignored peace reconciliations by the EU with Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt saying, “We went flat out … I think we did everything we could have done.”
