Syria Refugees Pour Into Iraqi Kurdistan In Thousands [Photo]
Thousands of Syrian Kurds have fled from the ongoing Syrian civil war to Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish region forcing the UN refugee agency to muster aid to the area. For the time being refugees are being housed at shoddy encampments lacking many basic services located on the outskirts of the Kurdish regional capital Arbil. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says the recent wave of refugees is one of the biggest single waves they’ve dealt with since March 2011 when the revolt against the rule of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad began. “We fled because there is war, beheadings and killings, and in addition to that there is no work,” said Fadhel Abdullah, one of the many Syrian war refugees.
