U.S. Condemns Recent Iraq Bombing [Photo]
A wave of car bombings intended for Shi’ite Muslims celebrating the end of Ramadan tore through Iraq on Saturday killing nearly 80 people. Families celebrating the end of the Muslim fasting month were especially targeted as they were shopping late on Saturday. One year and 6 months later since the last US troops withdrew, Sunni Islamist militants have been steadfastly working to claim power over Iraq’s Shi’ite-led government. The neighboring civil war in Syria has also increased tensions in Iraq raising fears that the land could relapse into the rampant violence during 2006-2007 where tens of thousands were killed.
