Latest Deadly Iraq Bombings Target Cafe, School and Playground [Photo]
The most recent suicide bombing in Iraq took place Monday in a crowded cafe in Balad, situated 50 miles north of the country’s capital of Baghdad. Killing 16 people and injuring 41 others, the attacks point toward a new strategy aimed to target civilians in recreational areas primarily frequented by family and children. The latest bombings come on the heel’s of the al Qaeda-responsible bombings that occurred this past weekend during the end of Ramadan which killed upwards of 90 people. This year’s Ramadan has been one of the deadliest in recent years as Sunni Islamist militants continue to wage an insurgency against Iraq’s currently Shi’ite-led government.
